Project Info
This incarnation of the popular Duck Dynasty TV series in video game form is a mix of Animal Crossing and Duck Hunt. I was responsible for the UI design and game flow from concept through implementation, working as part of the Black Lantern Studios team and providing support to Activision as the publisher.
ABOVE: A collection of wireframes I created to help further planning and coordination around menu workflows and minigame states.
I worked to create a friendly style that complimented the papercraft aesthetic of our general art direction. Special care was taken in making sure the various menu and interface elements were compatible with both stylus and d-pad control methods. There are only so many ways you can use wood as a material for an interface but, hey, I love a challenge.
ABOVE: A collection of core interfaces I created and eventually implemented using a proprietary engine and 3DS Max pipeline; from top to bottom, left to right:
- Top screen HUD showing dialog; bottom main tabbed selection showing character data
- Top screen quest detail with status and reward; bottom screen showing quest list and selection
- Bottom screen hunting collection
BELOW: High fidelity mockups I created showing various interface states and components for the core duck hunting minigame.
Numerous technical and performance considerations were present which necessitated crystal clear communication in my work with artists, designers, and programmers. I implemented the majority of interface elements and layouts using 3DS Max, including animated transitions.
BELOW: Samplings of other game screens I designed and implemented such as the bird collection, fishing minigame, and duck call ability breakdowns.
