Welcome, Fellow Gamer!
Some time back, I was introduced to a post on reddit by Chris DeLeon, a veteran game developer turned philanthropist and mentor. In this post, Chris detailed how he’s decided to donate his time, talents and experience to anyone interested in learning the craft of game development and design in an effort to help others find the excitement of producing games for others to play. I thought this was an exceptionally cool thing, so I got in touch with Chris and worked with him to successfully launch hobbygamedev.com where he now stores his collected writings and continues to produce more free resources for beginner game devs.
I’ve long wanted to take a more active role in the game community (apart from playing them incessantly) but never found that contributions on forums, guilds, or other social avenues was very effective. Additionally, my dream has always been to eventually work in the games industry in some sort of design capacity. I don’t feel I’ve really been effective at the former, I haven’t been able to get my foot in the door concerning the latter. So, I’ve decided to change all that.
The important thing to note about the project Chris and I worked on, is that I did it for free. I’m able and willing to offer my skills and expertise – just as Chris has done – to the game community for free. If you’re an indie game dev that needs a website (for yourself or for your game[s]), if you’re looking for someone to do UI design and asset creation, if you need web banners, advertising assets, play testing, whatever… I’m your guy. This allows me to contribute my talents to a group of people that have made the world just a little bit better (in my opinion) and I’m doing it for free.
If this sounds like you and if you would like to work with me, please get in touch with me. I’d love to hear from you.
